"Hopewell church has no minutes recorded in the Presbytery concerning her official date of organization. The residence of John Shillinglaw, Clerk of the Session, was destroyed by fire on March 17, 1903; and such records as were in his possession were burned. Hopewell Presbyterian Church must have been organized at some time between October 3, 1808 and March 8, 1810. Certain it is that services have been held at Hopewell since 1808. In lieu of any statement as to the exact date of the organization, the Church is justified in placing its orgin in 1808."
-Bailey, Rev. John Crooks and William Boyce White, Jr., "The Sesquicentennial History of Hopewell Presbyterian Church York County, SC 1808-1958"
Hopewell Presbyterian Church is listed as the 29th oldest church in the P.C.A. denomination (with Fairfield Presbyterian Church in Fairton, NJ as the oldest dating back to 1680).
